On this map, the western non-Confederacy areas of low life expectancy are the result of another historical evil: the dispossession of Native Americans.
Go into any US supermarket. See what people put in their carts. Realize they will eat it, and even worse, feed to their children. Then drive a few streets, look at the fast food places all over. No health system can counteract the disrespect too many US people apparently have for their bodies, based on what they put in their mouth, chew, and swallow.
